Balance Band Rules

Specific Date

Enter the anniversary date from which the employee starts earning entitlement if entitlement is not earned immediately. Alternatively, leave this field blank if the anniversary date is the employee's start date. In the period prior to the anniversary date, entitlement is accrued which is referred to as the pro-rata value.

On the anniversary date, the pro-rata value becomes the employee's entitlement for the specified entitlement period, and the pro-rata value is reset. In subsequent entitlement periods, accrued entitlement is once again known as the pro-rata value, which becomes the employee's entitlement as of the anniversary date.

If an employee moves from one post to another prior to the anniversary date, the pro-rata value for the old post becomes the pro-rata value for the new post.

Period

Enter the number of periods that represent the length of the entitlement period over which entitlement is accrued. This is calculated from the anniversary date. This field is used in conjunction with the following field. For example, if you enter 10, followed by Y in the Period Type field, the entitlement period is 10 years.

Period Type

Enter D, W, M or Y to indicate whether the period type is days, weeks, months or years.

Anniversary

Enter one of the following to indicate the type of anniversary on which the pro-rata value becomes the employee’s entitlement:

Second Period

Enter the number of periods that represent the length of future entitlement periods once the first entitlement period has ended, if different. This field is used in conjunction with the previous field. For example, you may want the first entitlement period to last 10 years, but thereafter, you may want entitlement to be accrued every 5 years. In this example, you would enter 5 in this field. Leave this field blank if all entitlement periods are the same.

Use Pro-rata Entl

Enter Y if the accrued pro-rata entitlement can be used when processing an absence where the requested number of days or hours exceeds the entitlement available.

Pro-rata Period

Enter the number of periods that represent the length of the pro-rata qualifying service period. An employee's long service leave pro-rata entitlement is not paid out upon termination unless this qualifying period of continuous service has been served. This field is used in conjunction with the following field. For example, if you enter 5, followed by Y in the Period Type field, the pro-rata period is 5 years.

Period Type

Enter D, W, M or Y to indicate whether the period type is days, weeks, months or years.
