System Report Devices
Enables you to set up the various printers and other output devices that are available for selection.
The following standard output devices are available in the Web View module:
- Client Printer - this option creates a .PRN file, which you can open and print using Microsoft® WordPad or the ResourceLink Raw Print Utility, or you can save the file. This single option replaces the individual client printers that are available in the PRO- IV desktop client.
- The ResourceLink Raw Print Utility enables you to send a .PRN file directly to a printer, bypassing the Microsoft® Windows printer drivers and is available from the ResourceLink client CD.
- CRT (Screen) - this option outputs the data to screen, which is displayed in a new browser tab or window. You can then print the data using the web browser's standard print functionality.
- Server-Side Printers - you may optionally have one or more server-side printers listed. Select the required printer to print directly to the server-side printer.
Note: The device with an Output String of CRT must not be removed.

Device Code
Enter the ID of the report device.
Description
Enter a full description to identify the type of device and its location.
Class
Enter one of the following codes to identify the type of report device:
F | File. Output is directed to a file rather than a printer. You must specify the filename in the Output String field. |
H | Hard copy. Document printed onto paper. |
S | Screen. Document displayed on the screen. |
Output String
Enter the name of the device to which print requests can be sent. This can be one of the following:
- CRT - for screen outputs.
- The filename if you are outputting to a file.
- The name of the device you are outputting to - this is case sensitive for UNIX® servers and must exactly match the name of the output queue.
Width
Enter the maximum number of characters the printer is capable of printing across the page, for example, 60 for A4 paper. This information is not required for Microsoft® Windows® 2000 or 2003 environments.
Length
Enter the maximum number of lines the printer is capable of printing down the page, for example, 80 for A4 paper. This information is not required for Microsoft® Windows® 2000 or 2003 environments.
Spooled
Enter Y to direct all print requests to a spooler (print queue) instead of printing straight away. This allows the operator to continue processing while their request waits in the queue before being printed.
Queue
Enter Y if the output string entered above refers to a server-side printer.
File
Enter Y to denote that the output string is the name of a file where the output will be sent.
Physical
Enter Y to specify that print requests are sent straight to the report device identified by the output string and are not held in a queue.
Network
Enter Y if the output string entered above refers to a client-side printer.
Sysout
This field only applies to IBM® mainframe environments and is used to specify the SYSOUT class.
