Enables you to set up and maintain the necessary SSP parameters and the average pay parameters for UK SSP and statutory parental leave pay (SPLP).

The information held on this screen includes rates and parameters that include those that define the Period of Incapacity for Work (PIW) and those required in the calculation of the employee’s average week’s pay.

Note: An employee’s average week’s pay is calculated only once for a PIW, at its start.

Selection

Effective Date

Enter the effective date of the SSP parameters that you want to maintain, or select one by clicking WINDOW to display SSP Parameters.

If the effective date doesn't exist, a prompt is displayed allowing you to create the new date. If you choose to create the new effective date, Copy SSP Version is displayed where you can copy an existing set of parameters and amend the details.

Control

No of Weeks Entitlement

Enter the total maximum number of weeks that UK SSP can be paid during a PIW. After this period of time has elapsed, the arrangement of payments transfers from your organisation to the Contributions Agency (as a Social Security Benefit may be due).

Transfer Notification Weeks

Enter the number of weeks into a particular PIW that a transfer notification form (SSP1) is to be issued to the employee, detailing the start and end dates of the UK SSP and that the UK SSP entitlement period is nearly complete. This value will be a little lower than the No of Weeks Entitlement value. A report in the pay cycle should inform you that this point has been reached.

Waiting Days

The first few days of a PIW are called waiting days and no UK SSP can be paid until after these days. Enter the number of waiting days in this field.

If PIWs link together, then only the first few days of the first PIW are waiting days; the other linked PIWs do not contain any waiting days.

Linkage Days

PIWs can be linked together into one PIW, providing the period between the first day of one PIW and the last day of the previous PIW is not greater than a certain number of days. Enter this number in this field.

A new employee may have a linked PIW if they had a PIW within the linkage days limit with their previous employer.

Male Retirement Age

Enter the retirement age for men, as no PIWs can be started for men who have reached retirement age.

Female Retirement Age

Enter the retirement age for women, as no PIWs can be started for women who have reached retirement age.

ESA Weekly Rate

Enter the Employment Support Allowance (ESA) weekly rate. ESA is paid to employees by the DWP if they have received UK SSP for more than the allowed period. When this happens, the UK Single Post and UK Multi-Post Sickness functionality stops generating UK SSP and starts generating deductions to offset the payments. ResourceLink bases the ESA deductions on the ESA weekly rate. There is no functionality in the Leave Management module to automatically generate deductions, so this requires a manual process due to the employee having to apply for ESA from the DWP.

Note: This rate can be overridden for individual employees in SSP/OSP Payment Values, accessed from Attendance Detail. If multi-post functionality is enabled, this rate can be overridden for a selected post in SSP/OSP Payment Values, accessed from Multi-Post Absence / Attendance.

Average Pay

Note: You should not amend the average pay fields without a thorough knowledge of UK SSP and SPLP as these parameters are used to perform the average week’s pay calculation.

Weekly/Monthly Periods

Enter the number of weeks/months of pay that should be used in the calculation of the average week’s pay.

Weekly/Monthly Multiple

If your organisation has both weekly paid and monthly paid employees, then multipliers are required for both of these fields. Enter the multipliers in these fields.

Weekly/Monthly Divisor

If your organisation has both weekly paid and monthly paid employees, then divisors are required for both of these fields. Enter the divisors in these fields.

Weekly/Monthly Limit

Enter the number of periods of National Insurance gross that you want to retain on the system (for example, 26 weeks / 6 months) for each employee. This information should be kept available for a reasonable period of time, so that the system has the necessary information at its disposal when an average week’s pay calculation is required. If you do not enter any values in these fields, then there is no limit to the length of time that the system retains the National Insurance information.

Payment

There are two weekly earnings rates (lower and standard), for which different levels of UK SSP are paid. The fields within this section contain the weekly rates and earnings thresholds for these two rates.

Lower Rate Earns Threshold

Enter an earnings threshold for weekly earnings, below which UK SSP is not paid.

Lower Rate Weekly Rate

Enter the UK SSP weekly rate used for calculating UK SSP, if the amount of average weekly earnings is at the lower rate.

Std. Rate Earns Threshold

Enter an earnings threshold, below which the Lower Rate Weekly Rate is paid, and from which the Standard Rate Weekly Rate becomes payable.

Std. Rate Weekly Rate

Enter the UK SSP weekly rate used for calculating UK SSP, if the average weekly earnings are in the standard rate.
