Personal Grade Spinal Point History
Enables you to view the employee’s personal grade spinal point history. That is, it shows any instances where the system-calculated point on the spinal column has been manually overridden, and lets you manually override the current point. You can also remove bar points if required.
Note: The Step field in Grade Spinal Column History is used to record the number of spinal points employees on a grade should be increased by on each increment run. This step can be overridden by a personal increment (e.g. after appraisal) using the Override fields in this window.
General
Start Date
Enter the date on which this change of spinal point becomes effective.
End Date
Enter the date from which this change of spinal point ceases to be effective.
Point
Spinal point. This field either lets you override the current spinal point or enter payment category points, depending on how the employee’s salary calculation is set up on the system.
Depending on the type of salary calculation, clicking WINDOW has one of the following effects:
- Displays a list of the spinal points available to override the existing one.
- Displays Employee Payment Categories if payment categories have been linked to the grade (as in teachers’ salary calculation).
Change Reason
Enter the grade reason for the change of spinal point, or select one from the drop-down list. The options are set up in the GRDRSN narrative category
Change Source
Display only. This shows the reason for the change of grade.

If you have just placed the employee onto this grade, the code POSTPL (post placement) is displayed.

Click window to display Maintain Note Detail, where you can enter any notes or comments you want to record.
Override Date
Enter the date on which this employee will have their next increment.
Override Reason
Enter a reason to explain why the incremental step (recorded against the grade) should be overridden, or select one from the drop-down list. The options are set up in the OVRRDE narrative category.
Override Step
Record the number of spinal points employees on this grade should be increased by on each increment run.
Carry Forward
If you want to carry the step overriding information forward so that the employee continues to get a different increment to the standard (as recorded on the increment parameter set), enter Y. If this increment is just a one-off, enter N.
Bar Point
Displays Employee Personal Grade Bar Point History, where you can remove a bar point for the current employee. A bar point prevents an employee’s salary from progressing any further along the spinal column without manual intervention.
Current Bar Point
Display only. Shows the current bar point, defined via Grade Spinal Column History.
