Enables you to set up and maintain the necessary statutory parental leave pay (SPLP) parameters, including SMP, SPP and SAP which are required in the calculation of employees’ statutory parental pay. The Contributions Agency and HMRC provide the necessary information for this screen, including form SSP3, which may be helpful to you.

Note: If you change the statutory rates, you can use Recalculate Parental Leave Records to recalculate all incomplete and unpaid parental leave records using the new rates.

Selection

Effective Date

Enter the effective date of the SPLP parameters that you want to maintain, or select one by clicking WINDOW to display SPLP Parameters.

If the effective date does not exist, a prompt is displayed allowing you to create the new date. If you choose to create the new effective date, Copy SPLP Version is displayed where you can copy an existing set of parameters and amend the details.

Definition

This section of the screen displays the parameters that define the Maternity Parental Pay and Adoption Parental Pay. The EWC starts on the Sunday of the week of the expected date of birth (form MATB1).

Qualifying Week

The QW is a specific week that occurs a certain number of weeks before the EWC. Enter this number in this field.

Earliest PLPP Start Week

Enter the earliest week that the employee may choose to begin the PLPP relative to the EWC, unless the baby was born or matched earlier.

Latest PLPP Start Week

The maternity or adoption pay period can start at any time between the 11th week before the baby is due/matched and the Sunday following the date the baby is born/matched.

Enter the latest week that the employee has chosen to begin the PLPP relative to the EWC. If the employee continues to work beyond this date, then SMP/SAP payments do not start until the Sunday after she stops work.

If the employee wants to work through to the EWC, zero can be entered in this field.

Service Qualification (Wk)

Enter the number of continuous weeks of service that are required in order to qualify for any SMP/SAP remuneration.

Number of Weeks in PLPP

Enter the number of weeks that define a Parental Leave Pay Period. The PLPP is the time for which remuneration is applicable.

Low Rate

Enter the value of the low rate of SMP/SAP weekly remuneration.

High Rate (Weeks)

Enter the number of weeks that are to be paid at the high rate of SMP/SAP remuneration, starting from the first PLPP week. For the remaining weeks of PLPP, the low rate of SMP/SAP is paid. The value in this field cannot exceed the Number of Weeks In PLPP value.

High Rate (Percentage)

Enter the percentage value of the high rate of SMP/SAP remuneration.

Lower Earnings Limit

Enter a threshold value of National Insurance pay, below which the low rate of SMP/SAP remuneration is not paid. If National Insurance liable earnings drop below this threshold, the employee is not eligible for SMP/SAP and has to claim statutory maternity or adoption benefit from HMRC.

Reclaim Percentage

Enter the percentage at which SMP/SAP can be reclaimed. It is offset against National Insurance contributions.

Maximum Kit Days

Enter the maximum number of Keep in Touch (KIT) days that are permissible for SMP and SAP.
