Enables you to search for employee records for the currently selected task.

You can also use it to build a list of employees to process through the current and other tasks.

If you build a list of employees, you are given the opportunity of saving them into a staff list when exiting from the window. The list can then be used subsequently with Employee Selection to retrieve the employees automatically without having to specify them individually.

Enter criteria for the employee you are searching for. If you do not know what to enter for any field you can leave it blank, although you must make an entry in at least one field.

General

Surname

Enter all or part of the person’s surname. For example, S finds all those with a surname beginning with S; SM finds all those with a surname beginning with SM; SMITH finds all those with the surname of SMITH.

To perform a sounds-like search, precede the surname with ! (exclamation mark). For example, !SMITH finds surnames such as SMITH, SMITHERS and SMYTHE.

Initials

Enter one or more of the person’s initials without spaces or punctuation. For example, S finds all those with S as their first initial.

To perform a positional search, precede the initial with % (percentage sign). For example %P finds all those with P contained within their initials, such as AP and PA.

If you enter initials, then you must also make an entry in the Surname field.

Sex

Enter M for male or F for female to specify the person's legal sex. If you make an entry the Sex field, then you must also make an entry in the Surname field.

National Identity Number

Note: The name of this field changes depending on the setting of the MISC > COUNTRY > DEFAULT system parameter. If this system parameter is blank, this field defaults to Nat. Ins. Number for the UK.

Enter one of the following national identity numbers, depending on the person's legislation type:

Note: If you make an entry into this field, the Surname, Initials and Sex fields must be left blank.

Current Employee

Enter Y for current employees only, N for non-current employees only, A for both current staff and leavers, L for leavers only, or D for employees who have been deleted but whose basic details still remain in the system. The default for this field can be specified in the Current Employee Search Type field which is accessed via the 'User Control' option, followed by the 'User Pay/Personnel' option in System Control Maintenance.

As at Date

Selects all staff up to and including a specified date. The default is the current date.

Previous Surname

Enter all or part of the employee’s previous surname.

Note: The following fields are only available if you are using the MD00G11 version of the Employee Search window.

Known As

Search for an employee using their nickname or the name they are commonly known by. For example, if the employee’s first name is William, but he is known as Bill, enter BILL.

Multiple Searches

Enter Y to perform multiple searches. Enables you to make multiple visits to Employee Search and build an employee list. After exiting the Employee Search window, Multiple Employee Selection is displayed. From it you can then revisit Employee Search where you can search for more employees. Another method is to create a list of staff by entering their employee number. For information about this method, see Multiple Searches by Employee.

Alternatively enter N to choose from the employees you have selected in the current search without conducting any further searches. After exiting the Employee Search window, Employees Matching Criteria is displayed.
